If you’re in search of the world’s best bar, look no further than Barcelona. Sips, a popular watering hole in the Spanish city, has taken the top spot on the prestigious World’s 50 Best Bars list. The announcement was made at an event held in Singapore on Tuesday.
This is not the first time a Barcelona establishment has claimed the number one spot. Last year, Paradiso, another bar in the city, received the coveted honor.
Sips is renowned for its exceptional drinks and stylish decor. The 50 Best Bars team hails its “pastel pink and green decor,” which creates an inviting atmosphere that seamlessly transforms from a vibrant early evening venue to a sultry hideaway as the night unfolds.
But it’s not just the aesthetic that sets Sips apart. The bar serves up playful and inventive cocktails that are sure to delight. One standout drink is the Daiquiri Heliodora, which arrives in style via an intriguing hand-turned machine that delivers grapefruit shaved ice.
Sips has already garnered recognition in previous years, placing third on the 50 Best Bars survey last year.
While Barcelona claims the top spot, a handful of U.S. bars have also made their mark on the prestigious list. New York City boasts several establishments, with Double Chicken Please taking second place, followed by Overstory at 17th, Café La Trova in Miami at 24th, Katana Kitten in New York at 27th, and Jewel of the South in New Orleans rounding off the list at 49th.
The unveiling of the World’s 50 Best Bars list coincides with a promising recovery for American drinking establishments. After months of shutdowns due to the pandemic, the U.S. bar and nightclub industry experienced a notable rebound, with a 14.6% increase in revenue to $36.5 billion in 2022, according to market researcher IBISWorld.
In addition to the bar ranking, William Reed, the media company behind the prestigious list, also publishes an annual survey of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants and recently introduced a 50 Best Bars in North America survey.
