New York City, Thursday Evening
An accident involving a double-decker tour bus and another bus in Manhattan has resulted in 18 individuals being transported to hospitals for treatment, according to fire and EMS officials.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m., when reports of a major vehicle crash were received by Deputy Chief Kevin Murphy of the New York Fire Department’s Division 1 Unit. Responding emergency personnel encountered a serious accident made more complex by the presence of a double-decker bus.
Deputy Chief Paul Hopper of New York EMS Division 1 revealed that many of the injured individuals suffered cuts, bruises, scrapes, as well as suspected fractures and head and neck injuries. However, he assured that none of the injuries are life-threatening.
Additionally, around 63 passengers requested assessments from a doctor who was present at the scene.
Both Hopper and Murphy refrained from speculating on the cause of the crash.
According to Ishrak Jahan, a passenger on one of the unfortunate buses, the incident unfolded suddenly. “I heard the lady next to me scream, so I looked up and I saw this bus barreling towards us,” Jahan recounted to CBS News New York. “I just saw glass everywhere for a second. It was honestly like I was in a movie… I saw blood. I immediately called 911.”
