European stocks ended the day on a positive note, with the Stoxx Europe 600 index rising by 1.51% to reach 458.54. The FTSE 100 index increased by 1.83% to 7,416.11, while the French CAC 40 index rose by 1.57% to 7,333.01, and the German DAX climbed 1.47% to 16,023.00.
Top Gainers
Among the constituents of the Stoxx Europe 600 index, real estate company Aroundtown S.A. saw the largest increase on Wednesday, with its shares surging by 11.5%. Banking/credit firm Virgin Money UK PLC and retail company Zalando SE also experienced significant gains, with their shares rising by 11.47% and 10.51% respectively. Health care/life sciences company Idorsia Ltd. and real estate firm IWG PLC rounded out the top five performers, as their stocks rose by 7.5%.
Top Losers
On the other hand, industrial goods company Hexagon AB Series B saw the largest drop among the Stoxx Europe 600 constituents, as its shares weakened by 4.0% on Wednesday. Health care/life sciences firms MorphoSys AG and argenx SE also experienced a decline, with their shares weakening by 3.21% and 3.12% respectively. Air transport company International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. and health care/life sciences company Ambu A/S Series B rounded out the top five losers, as their stocks weakened by 2.28% and 2.17% respectively.
Currency and Commodity Movements
In currency markets, the pound was up by 0.46% against the dollar, while the euro rose by 1.05%. Brent crude showed a positive trend as well, rising by 0.89% to reach $80.11.
Bond Yields
The yield on the 10-year gilt fell by 15.45 basis points to 4.515%, while the yield on the German 10-year bund fell by 10.240 basis points to 2.55%.
