The markets in the United States opened flat, with little change in the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average futures. It’s important to note that movements in futures don’t always predict what will happen when the markets officially open.
Meanwhile, European markets saw some movement. The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose by 0.1% during morning trading. United Internet experienced a 5.2% increase, while Viaplay Group Series B rose by 3.9%. On the other hand, Elekta Series B saw a significant decline of 3.8%, and Netcompany Group slipped by 3%. The FTSE 100 index showed a modest gain of 0.2%. In France, the CAC 40 increased by 0.2%, and Germany’s DAX climbed by 0.2%.
Currency and Commodities
In currency markets, the Wall Street Journal Dollar Index dropped by 0.2% to 96.05.
Turning to commodities, Brent crude oil managed a slight gain of 0.1% and reached $79.44 per barrel. Similarly, WTI crude oil climbed by 0.1% to $74.87 per barrel.
Bond Yields
Looking at bond yields, the German 10-year Bund yield fell by 2.5 basis points to 2.624% from 2.649%. Simultaneously, the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury declined by 2.5 basis points to 3.949% from 3.974%. As a general rule, bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Asian Markets
Asian markets displayed mixed results, as Japan’s Nikkei 225 index declined by 0.8%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.9%. China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite fell by 0.8%.
