U.S. Futures Down Ahead of Opening Bell
U.S. futures for the S&P 500 were down 0.5% and futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average were flat. Changes in futures do not necessarily predict movements after the opening bell.
European Markets
In Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 dropped 0.1% in morning trading. Notable stock performances included Uniper, which added 10%, and Billerud, which rose 9.9%. On the other hand, Nokian Renkaat lost 14.2% and NEL slipped 8.4%. The FTSE 100 lost 0.1%. France’s CAC 40 decreased by 0.2% and Germany’s DAX remained flat.
Dollar Index
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index climbed 0.1% to 100.53.
Commodities
In commodities, Brent crude fell 0.3% to $86.87 a barrel, and WTI crude fell 0.5% to $83.34 a barrel.
Bond Yields
The German 10-year Bund yield climbed by 1 basis point to 2.833% from 2.827%, and the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose by 2 basis points to 4.845% from 4.826%. Bond prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Asian Markets
Stocks in Asia were up as Japan’s Nikkei 225 index gained 0.7%, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng gained 0.5%. China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite gained 0.4%.
