In the United States, futures for the S&P 500 remained steady, while futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average saw a slight decline of 0.1%. However, it is important to note that changes in futures do not always accurately predict market movements once the opening bell rings.
Moving over to Europe, the Stoxx Europe 600 experienced a decline of 0.4% during morning trading. Some notable performers include MorphoSys, which saw a gain of 4.5%, and Bank of Ireland Group, which climbed by 1.8%. On the other hand, Bakkafrost suffered a loss of 7.7%, and Financiere Richemont sank by 7.4%. The FTSE 100 also experienced a slight downturn of 0.2%. Additional stocks in Europe were down as well, with France’s CAC 40 declining by 0.7% and Germany’s DAX falling by 0.2%.
The Wall Street Journal Dollar Index remained flat at 94.82.
In terms of commodities, Brent crude dropped by 0.9%, settling at $79.12 per barrel, while WTI crude witnessed a decrease of 1%, with prices at $74.69 per barrel.
Taking a look at bond yields, the German 10-year Bund yield experienced a slight decline of 0.2 basis points to 2.511% from 2.513%, while the yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury fell by 0.6 basis points to 3.826% from 3.832%. It is worth noting that bond prices and yields typically move in opposite directions.
Turning our attention to Asian markets, stocks experienced a mix of gains and losses. Markets in Japan were closed, but Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index gained 0.3%. On the other hand, China’s benchmark Shanghai Composite saw a decline of 0.9%.
