Any NBA fan knows that when it comes to breaking news, there are two primary sources to rely on: Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Woj or Shams. Coke or Pepsi. Boeing or Airbus.
So when TNT unexpectedly interrupted the Knicks-Nets game on Tuesday night to report that the Milwaukee Bucks had hired Glenn “Doc” Rivers as their next coach, citing CNN Sports, it caught many off guard.
The move seemed logical, considering the Bucks had just parted ways with coach Adrian Griffin earlier that day. Rivers, with his impressive track record in coaching various teams like the Orlando Magic, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, and most recently the Philadelphia 76ers, appeared to be a strong candidate for the job.
TNT, a longstanding broadcaster of NBA games, is a sister outfit to CNN, a reputable news organization. However, what made this announcement peculiar was that it didn’t come from Woj or Shams. Quite surprising, don’t you think?
As attentive fans started to notice the absence of this breaking news from CNN’s coverage both on-air and online, they couldn’t help but wonder why the network didn’t highlight their own significant scoop. Something seemed off.
And then, shortly after midnight, TNT sheepishly admitted, “oops,” no deal had been finalized after all.
By the time you read this, the Bucks and Rivers may have come to an agreement. Nevertheless, it’s clear that the dynamic duo of Woj and Shams still reigns supreme when it comes to NBA transactions.
