Top Performers
Among the constituents of the FTSE 100, Intertek Group PLC ITRK emerged as the clear winner, with its shares rallying by an impressive 3.66%.
Other notable gainers included SEGRO PLC SGRO, an industrial/office REITs firm, and Ocado Group PLC OCDO, a leading food retail company. Their shares saw substantial increases of 3.23% and 2.90%, respectively.
Barclays PLC BARC, a renowned international banking company, and ITV PLC ITV, a prominent broadcasting firm, also joined the top-performing stocks list with their respective gains of 2.70% and 2.66%.
Biggest Losers
On the other end of the spectrum, NatWest Group PLC NWG, a banking company, witnessed the most significant decline among the FTSE 100 constituents, as its shares slightly dipped by 0.46% on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, real estate developers Rightmove PLC RMV and general mining company BHP Group Ltd. BHP experienced minor setbacks, their shares declining by 0.21% and 0.19%, respectively.
Dechra Pharmaceuticals PLC DPH, a pharmaceuticals company, and Intermediate Capital Group PLC ICP, an investment advisors company, also faced small decreases in their stock values, with declines of 0.10% and 0.09%, respectively.
Currency and Commodity Update
The pound sterling exhibited a slight downward trend against the dollar (GBPUSD) and the euro (GBPEUR), with decreases of 0.59% ($1.2657) and 0.35% (€1.1554), respectively.
In the energy market, Brent crude BRN00 witnessed an increase of 0.9%, reaching $79.93 per barrel.
Lastly, the yield on the 10-year gilt TMBMKGB-10Y experienced a noteworthy decline of 13.460 basis points, settling at 3.524%.
