AstraZeneca PLC, a biotechnology company, witnessed the largest decline among the FTSE 100 constituents as its shares dropped by 6.36%.
SSE PLC, a firm specializing in energy, and Persimmon PLC, a residential building construction company, also experienced significant drops in their stock prices by 4.69% and 4.31%, respectively.
Mondi PLC, a prominent player in the paper and pulp industry, and Antofagasta PLC, a non-ferrous metals company, secured their spots among the top five largest decreases as their stocks dropped by 3.26% and 2.80%, respectively.
Surging Stocks
DS Smith PLC, a leading containers and packaging company, stood out as the FTSE 100 constituent with the most substantial increase in share price, soaring by an impressive 9.78% on Thursday.
British American Tobacco PLC and Smurfit Kappa Group PLC, both containers and packaging companies, also experienced significant growth with their shares rising by 7.12% and 5.32% respectively.
Unilever PLC, a multinational consumer goods company, and Diploma PLC, a wholesalers business, rounded out the top five largest increases as their stocks rose by 3.15% and 2.92% respectively.
Market Indicators
The pound saw a slight decline of 0.04% against the dollar, reaching $1.2622, but experienced a small increase of 0.05% against the euro, reaching €1.1715.
Additionally, Brent crude oil climbed by 2.5% to $81.22, while the yield on the 10-year gilt rose by 6.520 basis points to 4.056%.
